'Challenging for trophies' – Player who left Chelsea this summer aims dig at Blues
Timo Werner sends message to former club
Timo Werner has sent a message to his former club Chelsea after leaving the club this summer. The German striker, who joined RB Leipzig on a permanent deal, has said that he is now aiming to challenge for trophies with his new club.
Werner said: “I am very happy to be back at RB Leipzig. I had a great time at Chelsea, but I am now looking forward to a new challenge. I want to win trophies with RB Leipzig and I believe that we have a good chance of doing that.”
Werner’s comments come after Chelsea won the Champions League last season. The Blues also won the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2021.
Werner’s departure from Chelsea
Werner joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig for £47.5 million in 2020. He scored 23 goals in 89 appearances for the Blues, but he failed to establish himself as a regular starter under Thomas Tuchel.
Werner was often used as a substitute by Tuchel, and he was often left out of the starting lineup for big games. This led to speculation that Werner was unhappy at Chelsea, and he was linked with a move away from the club throughout the summer.
Werner’s departure from Chelsea marks the end of a disappointing spell for the German striker at Stamford Bridge. He will now be hoping to rediscover his best form at RB Leipzig.
