Mississippi State Fires Head Coach Zach Arnett After One Season
Former Analyst at Ole Miss Had Rocky Tenure
Arnett Hired in 2020, Served as Interim Head Coach After Leach's Passing
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State University has fired head football coach Zach Arnett after only one season at the helm, the university announced Monday.
Arnett, who was born in Starkville on September 10, 1986, was previously an analyst at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) and served as the Bulldogs' defensive coordinator before being named interim head coach following the tragic passing of Mike Leach from complications of a heart condition in December 2022.
The move to fire Arnett comes after a disappointing 2023 season, in which the Bulldogs went 4-8 overall and 2-6 in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play. Arnett's firing also marks the end of a turbulent period for the Mississippi State football program, which has seen a series of coaching changes and off-the-field controversies in recent years.
